How Penetration Testing Works

There are varying degrees of penetration testing that can be done. Here are some examples:

Localized Network Penetration Test
(On-site service only)

The localized test is by far the most involved and informative test available. One of our network security specialists works on-site to scan your entire network for vulnerabilities, and discovers any flaws which may allow an attacker to gain access to your network and its files. This is especially important for business with Wi-Fi network, as these are especially open to attack, encrypted or not. Having a WEP/WPA/etc key protecting your network with a password is NOT foolproof, and most hackers can break this encryption easily. Because of this, securing the internal network is vital. Our penetration test will expose unsecured systems on the network, and we can then deploy patches and fixes to these computers to fix the security flaw.

Remote Server Penetration Test
(This test can be administered to/from any location, worldwide)

It doesn't matter if you run a web server, email server, or anything else. If anything can be accessed remotely, it is vulnerable to attack. The remote penetration test will discover any flaws in the security of the remote server. This test is especially important, as it protects you not just from hackers on your local network, but from the entire internet as well.

Can you make me hack-proof?

Absolutely not. There is no such thing as hack-proof. The only guarantees that can be made are to protect against known exploits and techniques. Software is not perfect, and as such is vulnerable to attack. It is recommended to penetration-test at least anually, or every time a new type of server is added or modified.
